A bold and moving tribute to Mahatma Gandhi — two figures of the Mahatma are depicted in overlapping planes, one bent in concentration at a brilliantly coloured spinning wheel (charkha) that radiates all the hues of the rainbow. The charkha as a symbol of self-reliance and freedom is transformed here into a burst of joyful colour, contrasting with Gandhi's simple white robes.
