The Vortex

On a black ground, dozens of green-toned figures seem to flow and tumble outward from a teal and magenta centre — simultaneously falling in and spiralling out. The effect is hypnotic and slightly vertiginous, as if the viewer is watching a cosmos being born or consumed. One of Puli Vijaya Kishore's most abstract compositions, this painting demonstrates her ability to generate emotional intensity through pure pattern and colour without narrative crutches.
